EB Games 1; Microsoft 0

April 9th 2007

So my Xbox 360 has the Ring of Death now. I picked up Guitar Hero II on Thursday and got it home, unpacked, plugged in, and started rocking out, but the console locked up half way through the first song. Hmm. Alright, maybe there is an update on XBL. Plug in the network cable and start it back up again. No dice. Whatever. Start playing again. Locks up in the menus. WTF! Let it sit for a couple minutes. Play again and it locks up in the song again. Well This sucks. Hundred bucks for this game and now my Xbox is crapping out.

Try cranking the machine up once more, and it locks up in the song again. This time, however, it doesn’t come back. Red Ring of Death. Lovely. Emails with Microsoft ended with this:

“I understand that you want to check the status of the repair of your Xbox console. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience. But email support lines do not have the capabilities to process your request regarding to the status of your Xbox console.”

What?? I still have the Xbox. I’m trying to figure out if you guys know another way of fixing it or if I have to send it places. sigh My friend suggests I just call the EB Games where I bought it. Here’s the short, highly edited version of the conversation.

Me: Hi, I bought my Xbox 360 there and it’s broke
Them: When did you buy it and did you buy the extended warranty with it?
Me: September of last year, and yes I have the warranty.
Them: Bring it in and we’ll replace it.

Shapow! Point for them. How hard was that? So now when I leave work I’m going to go to EB Games and swap my Xbox and then I’ll be playing Guitar Hero II tonight. At least that’s the plan. :)

Mission Impossible: Get a roommate

April 3rd 2007

So as we all know…oh wait…we don’t know…all that stuff was on my other blog which got lost in the great database crash of ‘07. Anyway, our old roommate moved out end of February. We had a roommate lined up for March 1, but talked to him on Feb 28 and he informed me that he found somewhere else to live. Super. Great. What a bastard.

So no roommate for March 1, and my other roommate and I have to pay extra rent for March. Then we have a slew of crazy people wanting to live here, or just old people (looking for somebody in our age group, hence not 35). I had one 20 year old girl who was trying to run away from her husband; she didn’t even tell me this until she ditched on coming to see the place.

April rolls around. Another guy comes to look at the place, looking to move in end of the month, since exams will be done. He has more interest than most, and offers to bring a down payment so to speak on the weekend, and to meet the other roommate. Calls today and informs me he now has a job in Calgary, so he naturally doesn’t want the place.

sigh

How bloody hard is it to get a roommate? Really, the only thing about the room is it’s a little small. The location is amazing. Twenty minute walk from University of Alberta campus (depending on where you need to go), 15 minute from LRT, 2-5 minutes from 2 major and many minor bus routes, and 5 minutes away from Whyte Ave. Rent: $260 a month with utilities in the summer at a out $40 – $50 a month per person. How amazing is that. Nice quite neighbourhood, close to fire rescue, 32” widescreen LCD, 5.1 surround sound, pimp couches and chairs in the living room, kitchen, washer and dryer (the quarterless kind :) )...

Anybody wanna move in??

If it comes down to it, we have a couple friends in residence who need a place to live end of the month. Still, it shouldn’t be this hard to find a roommate.

Such is life.

Alanis Morissette covers “My Humps”

April 3rd 2007

You know, it’s actually pretty good. If you don’t pay attention to the lyrics, it’s kind of soothing. It’s almost like a sex scene song for something like Top Gun (would replace “Take My Breath Away”).

I like Alanis Morissette, and this is quality.
